The Sizing Gauge
Multifunctional: double template, clean cut, repeatability — the right measure, every time.
What it's for
The Sizing Gauge is multifunctional. First, a double template: for the tip width, with its two holes — 6 mm for the standard size, 7 mm for the wide one — and for the paper length, with a maximum size to respect, or the paper will jam at the entrance of the Roller. Placed on the paper, on a flat surface, it lets you make a clean cut, in length as in width.
How to use it
Then there's repeatability: its markings let you recreate exactly the same Batte — paper length, tip width, amount of material — and match the settings given by the Build Your Batte page. Paired with the Clamp, it enables the "French-style" cut: its marks every 5 mm guide the perfect Batte, the Clamp holds, the Sizing Gauge guides, and a good pair of scissors does the rest. By trimming away the excess paper before rolling, you get the full benefit of your material: a smoother draw, a purer taste — the very benefit purists look for with the "Dutch-style" roll, but simpler and more consistent. It's all detailed on the How It Works page, in the section on the "French-style" method — and the practice roll is there to help you get the hang of it.
